Unlike Whee, though, I've never jumped in a Moke I'd never seen before and headed off for a long drive. In a pickup, yes. Four thousand miles. But not a Moke. May you have a good drive!
I'd humbly suggest that your longest trip in the Moke was in '99, though most of the miles weren't actually driven...

"Taking Wd-40!"

What about the duck tape?

"if it moves and it shouldn't, use duck tape.  If it doesn't move and it should, use WD-40"

@ Cheleker. I shall be careful when driving down the mountain passes to get a balance between drum brake fade and windscreen disaster!

Well, Moke is here. Had it up on lift. Seems like it's one of those rare cars that is better than it looks in pictures. Paint is somewhat tatty, and edges a little crusty, but where it matters is very solid. Pontoons are solid. Original floor - possibly one small patch but otherwise totally solid. Lots of nice original touches in the engine (3/68 date on fuse box) and all in all very solid. I'm very happy.

Thanks to Cheleker for insisting that I needed a Moke (yes, I know it took 15 years for me to act on your advise, but better late than never).
Thanks to werewolf for the import advice (I used your crazy Russian broker again).

Thanks to all the others for the advice and offers of help.

Having been the Wolseley-1000 that saw the elephant, an elk wouldn't bother it.
Enjoy driving the Moke. Remember, if you're going to run say 85mph or higher, take someone along to hold the front windscreen in place!

Got surprised by an Elk the other day in The Wolseley. Wasn't quick enough to take a picture. Big, but no elephant.

I remember you jumping into a South African Mini and driving across the US of A blogging along the way. How well did you know that vehicle before starting that trek?

Well, an update. I had to go Dallas to Sacramento for work Thursday night with the intention of flying back to Dallas Friday night and driving this weekend. However my flight was so delayed I was working on 3 hours sleep and that just wasn't enough to drive Moke 800 miles. So Moke is still in Dallas. I may get it shipped, or I may try again an upcoming weekend.

It's undercover now so the urgency is less

Whee, yes, congratulations for sure

For anyone who has never driven a moke, it is something else, now to think about undertaking a long road trip in any moke is something else entirely

A closed in mini is one thing, but an open moke, just mind blowing

It should be on everyone’s BUCKET LIST. , , ,

Get some rain x and cover both the outside and inside of the glass as a Moke windshield pushes the air back into the inside of the glass but you probably already know that by now .

Thanks. So far so good. About 150 miles south of Dallas now
