There are two different brake set ups on the Acme tow dolly's. The basic one is i believe is drums with electric brakes and the better one is discs with hydraulic brakes. If you can get the better one for that price by the time you figure shipping at $200 plus you are way ahead Peter.
The nice thing about the Mini specific ones Tim built was the weight they were light. My full sized Demco galvanized tow dolly with hydraulic brakes and torsion bar suspension and a small winch weighs around 600lbs almost as much as my Trailex aluminum two axle trailer, it is really an overkill for a Mini but i use it for other cars. I removed the tilt adjustable length ramps for my last trip and dropped 154 lbs in weight !!!
Malcolm, it is the disk brake version, we'll see how it goes. will be borrowing one for the Mini 59 but driving the Mini to Cocoa Beach!

Tow dolly only means wearing 4 tyres —-> the 2 tow dolly tyres and the two rear tyres of the car., and as well as the rear dampers and shock absorbers., and you can’t even do a reverse using a tow dolly.,
And also since classic minis donot posses a chassis, the tension goes to the subframe attachements and the body itself. The mini might fall apart halfway to your destination.

And, why do other people able to post pictures and i cannot. ,,did you post it using your iphone??  or laptop?  jeeez! i got tons of pictures to share but won't allow me to post.

Dad had one of Tim Bosse's dollies in the early 2000's.  Yes you can't back up with one, but he did have to unhook from the tow car and maneuver it around.  Another thing to consider is excessive wear on the rear tires.  He switched to a tow bar which we still have in case and now we use the single axle Aluma trailer with brakes.

Attached Pic of a Tim Bosse Dolly.

Ive thought to 're make this exact dolly myself.
Low Height + Pivoting bed = 10" wheels 1000% Mini SPecific.

After adding up the 'basic trailer building supplies (hubs , Fenders , lights , tounge, chains, tie dwns etc, Mini Wheels X2  + tires.
and then adding up box steel + hardware

If anyone was thinking to build one... I think its going to be PRETTY hard to beat that Acme Dolly with Brakes vs your time + building yourself + supplies and equipment to weld it up... much less learning the 'right stuff.

I know the discussion was for ' buying' just offering info.

The cheapest I found on CL near Miami were $900, for decent ones, cheapest a $450 and I would not tow my bicycle with them, almost the cost of the nice one wolf recommended, those are pretty nice and I've been considering these for a while.  Will keep looking still have some time.  Aware of the attached ramps Malcolm, and yes that fellow in Idaho I think already stopped making them

thanks

Tim Bosse in Ohio was making them but not sure he is building any anymore. Acme dollys are nice but if it is the one i am thinking of they are expensive but safety never does come cheap. If you buy used most i have seen need to be gone through to bring them up to make them roadworthy and safe with new bearings, lights, straps etc.
Depending on what vehicle you are towing with Peter the attached ramps can foul the floors on a Mini, if you tow with a truck with a hitch at a decent height it is not usually an issue.

Looking  to buy a tow dolly, there was a thread here about someone that made them, not sure if they are still around, or if someone has a spare??
