America or Midget seems likely on this side of the pond.  You cant tell by inspection.  I have seen more discussion on these heads elsewhere, check some MG forums.

Do you think it is from an Austin America? 1970 or 1971 vintage?

12G1316 has air injection ports, otherwise similar to the 12G940.  The 1316 casting is a bit thicker. Later heads with an X cast in the head, inside the rocker cover over the center exhaust port, have a different shape in the exhaust port.

Thank you guys for that very useful info. I was not sure how mini fixed the head cracking.
I was not able to find a MOWOG head with this number- 12G1316 with the number 4 cast below the 12G&numbers.

Thanks again. jim

The early 1275S heads had big valves and a tendency to crack between them. For that reason later 1275 heads used smaller valves.

Hi All, Did the mini have different 1275 heads through out its range or just the one?
Did they crack in the sixties? Or was the problem was more gasket related?
IF someone has a knowledgeable history the engine and is willing to share. Thanks Jim
