The STR series of Twin-Plate clutches are designed for daily driven high performance vehicles. STR clutches provide the comfort of the stock clutch’s pedal feel and the strength of a race ready twin plate. Whether it be a SCCA / NASA weekend at the track or a trip to the corner store, the STR twin plate clutch equally handles each task with ease.

Giken products costs slightly more than the factory flywheel and clutch replacements, but offers higher quality and durability. The integrated flywheel, clutch, and pressure plate design provides a 'matched' and 'balanced' solution.

Fits the following models with the 6-Speed Manual Transmission:

2002-2006 R53 MINI Cooper S Hatchback
2005-2008 R52 MINI Cooper S Convertible

This Twin-Plate Clutch Kit is designed for the MINI with up to 550hp - yes, you won't have to worry about overpowering this clutch! It is still an STR type clutch with the single diaphragm spring, so pedal pressure will be about the same as the NMG1630. Of course, clamping force is also about the same. Also, this clutch uses a solid hub, compared to the dampened hub on the NMG1630, so it will not slip as easily. If you have a MINI with LOTS of power, then this set-up is the perfect choice.

In spite of its decreased diameter, this clutch allows for extremely efficient power transfer and improved engine response. The redesigned leverage mechanism of the diaphragm spring on the center cover results in higher pressure of the clutch disk while reducing pedal effort. In addition, ventilation holes are designed to reduce heat generated inside the clutch system and allows for the friction plate dust to exit outside the clutch system, thus increasing reliability and safety. All OS Giken clutches include a corresponding performance flywheel to ensure maximum performance and unlock your vehicle’s potential.

Kit includes Clutch Disc, Pressure Plate, Flywheel, Flywheel Bolts and a metal Throwout Bearing. Enclosed Flywheel Bolts MUST be used with this kit.

NOTE: The stock 'twin-mass' flywheel uses sprung plates to absorb gearbox vibrations. The Giken unit is a single mass unit which may increase gearbox 'noise'.

The clutch operates using brake fluid. It draws off the brake fluid reservoir via a black tube on the side. Fluid flows from the reservoir into the cylinder above the clutch pedal (when there is a negative pressure). Then when the pedal is pushed the pedal cylinder pushes fluid through the tube into the clutch slave cylinder which activates the clutch.
