Even a stock MINI is fairly low to the ground, and when you install lowered springs or low profile tires you should absolutely protect the bottom of your drive train.

The factory installs a short plastic deflector, but a serious driver should consider the Steel Skid Plate as a replacement. It attaches in the stock location but also extends further back to protect the very vulnerable power steering cooling fan which is exposed under the car. While this fan is protected by a fuse (which will blow if a plastic bag becomes caught in the fan), this skid plate will prevent the resulting loss of power steering.

This Skid Plate weighs 22.5lbs, made from Steel with a powder coated finish.

Fits the following models with Manual Transmission:

2002-2006 R50 MINI Cooper and R53 Cooper S Hatchback
2005-2008 R52 MINI Cooper and Cooper S Convertible

NOTES:

  • Not compatible with automatic transmission.
  • Skit Plate will need to be removed for oil changes. Should only take a couple minutes to remove the skid plate.

Question:
With the skid plate on, how is changing oil and filter? On a stock ride car how much lower is the clearance?
Answer:
There are access holes that will allow you to get an extension and socket up there to drain the oil. Filter access is from the top-side. As for clearance - it doesn't come down much further from the rest of the car, I would say maybe 1/2 lower than standard parts.

Question:
Hello, I am using your skid plate. Its installed there are three slots at the front that mounts to under the radiator and condenser housing. I noticed that the skid plate presses on the condenser tubing/evaporator hose. Is this a problem?
Answer:
It shouldn't matter for them to be resting against the plate - as long as there is no interference or bending on the hoses it should not pose any problem.
