Performance Lightweight Single Mass Steel Flywheel upgrade for the 3rd generation F-Series MINI Cooper S models with the manual transmission. 10 lbs. lighter than stock!

You can have all the horsepower and torque in the world but without a good clutch to back it up, your car can't use that torque to get you off the line quick. Your clutch will either slip and reduce your acceleration or worse if you have a heavy Dual Mass Flywheel. The comfort designed DMF barely last under normal daily driving conditions. Any added torque or performance upgrades or usage can cause it to break. On a few occasions new DMFs have only lasted a week in normal driving conditions. Not to mention that they slow down the engine and prevent you from reaching the RPMs you need quick due to their weight.

Fits the following Cooper S models with the Manual Transmission:

2014-2019 F56 MINI Cooper S Hardtop
2015-2019 F55 MINI Cooper S Hardtop 4-Door
2016-2019 F57 MINI Cooper S Convertible
2016-2019 F54 MINI Cooper S Clubman
2017-2019 F60 MINI Cooper S Countryman

The stock Dual Mass flywheel in your MINI was designed to improve comfort by absorbing some of the 'shock' when engaging the gears for smoother shifts and also to dampen some of the harmonic vibrations transmitted thru the crankshaft. The two plates in the dual mass flywheel can rotate as much as 70 degrees in both directions to accomplish this dampening.

Although the design of the dual mass flywheel is plenty strong for normal driving, it may not be suitable for MINIs that are driven in a 'spirited' manner, or for those MINIs that have been modified for more horsepower. The combination of greater torque and rapid engagement from a performance clutch can damage the stock dual mass flywheel.

These are the reasons why this single mass solid steel flywheel is being offered as a performance upgrade. Fewer moving parts means fewer parts with a potential to fail.  Less weight means slightly quick spin-up. There may be a slight increase in NVH but it is usually imperceptible.

NOTES:

MINI specifies new Flywheel Bolts when servicing the Flywheel.

Tightening torque
Flywheel bolts:  88.50 ft lbs. (120 Nm)
Pressure Plate bolts:  11.06 ft lbs. plus 90° (15 Nm plus 90°)

Question:
Does it fit a stock clutch
Answer:
Yes, the lightweight flywheel will fit the stock clutch.

Keep in mind that the dual-mass flywheel is designed to 'soften' the engagement by using two plates that shift to absorb the shock. Since the flywheel has this feature, the clutch disc is unsprung or had a solid-hub.

When you switch to a solid flywheel, the engagement will be much more 'direct' and may even make some noise as the flywheel surface and the clutch surface mates.

At the very minimum, install a new clutch disc to minimize this possibility.
