Question:
I just got a 2009 New MINI Cooper R56 hatchback model. Noticed the hatch button has no rubber boot/ protection... also, pushing the button will not open the hatch, only the key fob. I get in start the car pull out shift gears and the hatch unlocks, then the doors unlock? It doesn't open until fully bumped closed then with the key fob opens. It does this every time I drive the car. How do I troubleshoot what I need to replace?
Answer:
There should be a rubber protector over it, and if it's missing/broken/worn then it's possible some moister could have gotten in and caused corrosion - which would explain the randomly opening or indicating it's open. A new hatch handle may be needed as you can't just replace the rubber.
