You have an automatic transmission, so yes. For manuals, the JASO MA2 spec is not necessary.

Any modern oil with a certification for a current API oil spec will be fine. I'm in the minority but I prefer synthetics - every argument I've heard against them so far have no basis in science, just anecdotes.

And don't go for the "maximum zinc" hype. The only circumstances where you might need super-high zinc levels are for engine break-in and if you are racing (or running at max power for long, long periods of time.)

Read Richard Widman's article on oil (who is a tribologist as I recall, so uses science instead of "my mechanic said..." to analyze the issue of Mini oil selection. (and owns a automatic Mini.)  https://www.widman.biz/mini_pics/classic-mini-oil.pdf

I’ve heard I should use 10w-40 JASO MA2 spec oil. Is this accurate? I have a 96 Rover Mini imported to the US. Should I stick with conventional, or synthetic? Any recommendations?
