AkbarAdeli still seems to be a spammer.
He pasted instructions form elsewhere to access a Bini switch panel when we are dealing with a real, clasic Mini, The dead giveaway is that Minis predate Torx fasteners don't have power windows etc.

Hi mate,

How to Remove the Switch Panel From a Mini Cooper

The Mini Cooper is designed with a switch panel that mounts in the dashboard below the stereo that contains the power window switches, the central lock controls, and other switches as well. If any of these switches fails, then the entire panel needs to be removed from the vehicle and replaced with a new one. To do that, the first thing you have to do is remove the defective panel. This should take about 30 minutes to do.

Step 1

Grip the interior knee panel located just below the steering column with your hand and pull the panel towards the ground. Allow the panel to hinge open, then remove the fasteners holding it in place with the ratchet and Torx-head sockets.

Step 2

Remove the screws on the vertical silver panel that sits to the left of the switch panel using the ratchet and Torx-head sockets. Repeat this for the silver panel on the right side of the switch panel. Move both panels away from the center console.

Unbolt the switch panel from the dashboard using a T-20 Torx-head screw and the 1/4-inch ratchet. Pull the panel away from the dash, and unplug the wiring on the backside. Remove the switch panel from the vehicle.

I think the switch panel is held.

that’s one that is cut. There are also two coming out of the connector which are cut short. Not an antennae lead—smaller and standard strands. Tried googling the numbers but found nothing. I’m pretty sure it’s the immobilizer box. Thanks.

My guess it has something to do with a car ausio system. Second guess is that it may be some sort of immobliizer, but there seems to be too many wires.

Look at the wire colours and compare them to the stereo wiring diagram for your car.
The box seems to have part numbers on it but I could not read them. Write them down and Google them.

Last resort: unplug the wires and see what doesn't work!

Okay, think I found a work around. Here's the box I'm asking about.
If they are .jpeg, try just changing the extension to .jpg instead. Some applications can't handle the older file type.

That box is part of the imobliser system.

I have a Haynes but find nothing in it about this. I believe it may be the alarm box. No pipe - it’s a heavy wire coming out toward the bottom which has been cut about a foot along.

Wrong.  Photos just need to be on your computer.  Hit respond then hit the drag and drop your image in the upper left.  Tap it once and you will be in your computer to pick a picture.  Then select.

Thanks Dan - most helpful. Was able to find the one remaining nut by feel and pull the panel. Another question if I may: what is the electrical box on the inside of the bulkhead, behind the fabric trim, a bit left of center? It has one multi wire connector on the side and a single thicker wire coming out of the front, near bottom. (Sorry, no photo as apparently this forum requires photos to be on a host site. I’ll have to set one up.) Mine is RHD if that matters and yes, it is MPI. Thanks again.

The switch panel is held (should be) in by two threaded studs and nuts on the back side. The blank where you think another pull knob should go is where the choke cable would be if you had a carburetor - I'm guessing you have a fuel injected car.  You should be able to find the nuts by feeling around (or maybe a small mirror or camera) up from under the rail the switches are mounted in.

Recently acquired my first Mini - a '93 UK spec, RHD. None of the gauges work and the switches are mis-wired somehow. Hitting what I believe to be the foglight switch (no front foglights are installed, one right rear is) starts the wipers slowly moving and causes the tach needle to move, even without the engine running. So, I need to track down a bunch of wires. I suspect the PO installed aftermarket radio to be at least one culprit. It works, but the wiring looks like a rats nest.

How does the center switch panel remove? Or must I pull each rocker switch out of the housing to access the wires behind?. If I pry the right side of the inner switch panel, next to the Heater knob, the rounded center part pulls out, but on the other end (appears to have a round blanking plug where another pull knob might go) it doesn't move. I can't find any fasteners that look to hold that end in.
Thanks.
