Based upon your comments I would not recommend repairing it yourself, get a professional on the job.

Hey man! I apologize for the late response. Really do appreciate your insight. Thank you! Turns out there are issues with the drive terrain (rear diff and transfer case) not sure if I should try to repair things? Replace things? Or get rid of the car?

Congratulations on your new MINI!
Shifting around 3k rpm is a good habit for normal driving and good mpg. However for more 'spirited' driving, you can shift at any point below redline..
As for the 'clunk' in the rear, you should have it looked at by a shop - it is almost impossible to accurately diagnose a noise issue. It can be loose or broken suspension part, or maybe a driveline / drivetrain issue...

Hey people,
New to the Mini world. Switched from a VW Jetta and picked up a Countryman S All4. The whole concept is relatively new (minus driving stick shift). Having a vehicle with AWD, charged up turbo, handling.
Main concerns are the shifting, handling, average setting of RPM's, along with a bit if a clunking in the rear? Honestly that last part seems a bit concerning, mainly happens during initial acceleration.
Typically with my VW TSI, I would run the RPM's up to 3k before shifting into next gear. This mini seems to essentially handle the same, but also capable of more?
Any help on the basics (along with the clunking) will be appreciated.
