The CW number is the body number.  It belongs on a small rectangular plate spot welded to the bonnet slam panel to the left of the bonnet catch.   Its recorded on a Heritage Certificate.

(Edit) I wonder if the original Body No plate is under the brass plate ... that's pretty much where it normally lives.

Cheers, Ian

Dr. Mini, you need to look at all the auction pictures, there's one of the proper VIN plate with the proper number which apparently matches the title.

VIN plate looks fine. If you scroll down below the messages on your thread you will see what it looked like before the black paint was worn away.

Hi there, I just sold my 65 Bug and am looking to get back into the Mini world. At current prices I am struggling to find a Mark I in my measly budget. I was pretty excited to find this 66 Traveller. I googled the VIN just to see what would come up and found a previous auction for it.

I am a little worried about the appearance of the VIN tags. There is a brass tag that appears further up with a sticker next to it. Then in the additional 31 photos I see that silver VIN plate is there. That VIN plate matches the sellers title. He was kind enough to send me a copy.

However it doesn't look like the VIN plate did in my Mini. Is this a concern?

Mini is also listed in the classified on this website.
