What is your timeframe for accepting cars for conversion after your demo is done? Maryland is a lot closer for me than Austin, and it sounds like your components are very similar to my build list.

Yes, I started a few months back designing, designing some more, then pulling the trigger to move forward once it met my criteria. 125+ mile range, 120hp/187 torque, very small weight penalty. We are building a full demo car now, just picked up the shell on Xmas Eve. It uses our subframe with D series transmission (3.25 final drive), lsd optional, standard suspension components, Netgain Hyper 9 Motor, adapter, lightened flywheel and clutch. Chose the 100v motor, paired with 5 Tesla S batteries ~24KW. Orion BMS, 6.6 KW Charger (charge time should be around 3 to 4 hours for full charge from 20ish %). Pretty excited about it, but none of its cheap, but neither is our performance D-series package either. Batteries will get cheaper/better as the years go on, but right now hard to beat the price/weight/density of the Tesla batteries. I post most of my updates on Facebook, just easier for me to add pictures as we go, and video, etc. Hoping to have it done by March, but that's a tight timeline, do-able, but tight.

John McGhee is building an electric set up with a D series Honda transmission in one of his sub frames.

If in doubt, flat out. Colin Mc Rae MBE 1968-2007.

Also, the guys at ZERO motorcycles in NorCal were engineering a means to convert their motorcycle drivetrain to work with a saloon for "an initial ballpark figure pulled out of the air" of $30K out the door.

I was watching this guy on YouTube playing with wrecked Tesla cars. The problem with Tesla is they will not let you fast charge, which is a problem, especially if you are on a road trip. And this guy just picked up a mini.

Hi,
Swindon Powertrain put out a large Media blast for it's products / services back in early November.  They're in England.
I've recently seen a discovery network "MotorTrend Channel" program where a group in ?Ireland/?Scotland?/Wales does many different cars with E mods. They've done a Classic Mini.
I wish you the best of luck.  We've seen a local SAMOA member do a very fine job of a woody wagon.  Let me know if you'd like his contact info, and I'll roote around for it.  Finally, I agree with LWB as a candidate so that you'll be able to keep the battery / ies low in the car by using the under "bed" storage areas.  Perhaps even use the blank space in the rear subbie area.
Please feel free to contact me directly. EM in profile, just N of SEA.  I'd like to know how you will "gear" your powertrain, or which gearbox you would use.  This might be one of the most difficult parts to engineer, especially when you try to take Instant Torque into account.
Best regards,
MSH

John Mcgee is in the process of gathering parts. Not sure what his plan is so far. Best way to find him is on Facebook.

Has anyone converted a classic mini to electric? I have a panel van that I'm thinking of converting.
