As Fmix comments, I would check the Relay next to Master Cylinders first. Have had same problem, twice.

Not 100% true they had the MPI block with a coil pack along with SPI injection.

Well think that was it!
Got the new crankshaft sensor put in yesterday test run today and everything was great.
One thing that may have been a symptom is that after running for a while and if I would stop for say gas and start soon after it would crank hard like the battery was dead but would correct itself after releasing the key and trying again done it since I bought the car does not now?
Thank you all for the help.

https://www.minimania.com/msgThread/121928/1/1/SPI_Cranks__Wont_Start

Read through my thread to see what I did.  Ended up being burnt solder on the relay box in the engine bay.  You having a 1998 should be an MPI.  I don't know how similar those are to the SPI, if you have the same relay box or not.

Maybe the crank sensor getting hot and failing. I've heard of this before.

Fuel and tank look good. Not getting spark when it shuts down. Wait 2-3 hours and starts and runs fine until warm again.

Thank you and will keep an eye on my tank.

If this is a 1275 SPI car, Check for silt in the gas tank clogging the filter sock. I've seen a few jap spec cars that have had empty tanks or low fuel and then develop flash rust on the inside of the tank and then fuel sloshes and rinses off flash rust and there is a very fine silt build up in the tank that slowly will eat away at the fuel pump and/or clog the filter. Symptoms of this are that it cuts out when driving and will restart after a few minutes of sitting, sometimes cutting out again not long thereafter. The lower the fuel level in the tank, the less diluted the silt is. Putting more fuel in the tank seems to make it better.

PITA to pull the tank and remove the top fuel pump and plate to gander inside.

8 SPI Automatic (Japan specs) starts and runs. Will not restart after warm?
(Newer Mini owner!)
Start the car and it runs great I drive to work/home about 30-40 minutes.
When I park turn the car off it won't restart? After sitting the car has
completely cooled it will start and do it all over again.... The car has
died on me once while driving and would not restart had to have it towed. I
have checked and I am not getting spark so I changed coil pack (same
problem).  What's next? ECU? Or are there things I can test change trouble
shoot before I go that route?
Thank your your help and recommendations.
