Big Al, whats up buddy and my bestie Spank. I just know of 30 Minis being crushed for unlawful VIN activity mostly from Pasadena British Motors and craigslist. Things are little crazy now for CHP & PD, but DMV Investigators might flag a car for re-inspection when Karen calls.

Good Luck

George

In order for California to chase down and prosecute a mini with a grey market vin  - they would have to admit they made a mistake in the first place... NOT LIKELY.

see: Skyline GTRs that were imported into CA, someone found out, company doing the importing was fined heavily out of business yet all the owners were given a pass and those cars still exist and are legal on the road today.

The "alls well after 25 years" rule is at the federal level. State law still takes precedent and in California your only legal if the car in question was certified for sale in the first place. Since the last 100% legal Mini was in 1967 thats the cutoff. They dont seem to be too concerned about post 67's as long as they are legitimate, but take a very dim view of re-vins. Having said that there seems to be a number of later Mini's registered as pre 75's for sale here happily sailing along under the radar.

How exactly does this CL ad figure into this thread?

Lets see, according to my math, 2020 minus 25 = 1995. There's only another 5 years left till all classic Minis will be allowable under the 25 year rule. Maybe the authorities have someting better to do?

Are the state/feds still chasing after re-vined minis? I'm mulling over getting into a classic and am surprised how many obvious MK III's and IV's i see here in Ca.
