I had a look at the setup on my Mini. There's approximately 1.5 cm between the fan shroud and the front of the thermostat housing. It seems to me there are slots in the rad shroud where it attaches to the rad. Can you move the rad shroud some towards the fender to get more clearance. Also my rad bracket has a bend (down) approx. 1cm at the front thermostat housing stud, i.e. its not flat. If the one you have is flat maybe you could bend it some to contact the thermostat housing.

I have never seen a fan shroud that close to a cylinder head / Thermostat housing.
There are also Different fan shrouds and lower Mk1 Mounting brackets for cooper S and Non cooper S that move Radiator Spacing over.
The limit is the Waterpump + Pulley + Fan= all stack up you need Space.

According to Mini Mania 12G617S is just a stainless steel version of 12G617.

Hello all,
I just replaced mine radiator, upper and lower bracket and housing for a 67 Cooper S. The previous owner used a mk2 housing and how it modify to fit. Now that I’m using the correct parts, the upper bracket for housing is higher and shorter, close to an inch than the thermostat housing using part 12G0617. So I order #12G0617S and a spacer #12A0312 from Seven Mini parts because the fan blade is rubbing the outer housing. Would these two parts solve issue.
