Engine died while I was driving. When I tried to restart I could tell there wasn’t any compression and that the usual tensioner and guides had failed. When I pulled the valve cover off the front can gear was off the cam and sitting down near the crank! The cam bolt was sheared off. Is this a common occurrence when the tensioner takes a dump or do you think it was a separate issue all together. The top plastic guide was still fully intact and somehow the gear still looks perfect and didn’t really damage anything else besides the lower chain guide. Just wondering if this engine is completely trashed or maybe I can get away with just doing a new chain, tensioner, guides and cam bolt. Assuming I can get out the broken piece in the cam. Just looking into the plug holes I don’t see any markings on the pistons. Gonna check closer with borescope tomorrow.
