Hello Doug,
I sent you an email concerning the Brown Wires. I hope that's okay with you.

Actually the engine needs the grounding strap/cable to go to the body, not the subframe. If you have a later car (after 1975) the subframes are rubber mounted.

To add to what dklawson said, the engine also has to be grounded to the chassis by way of the ground strap to the front subframe. This is often omitted and grounding (sketchy) occurs through the choke cable and/or the accelerator cable.

Thanks. You guys are good. I'll be back for another episode of "What's this Part?" soon enough.
I appreciate it. I took a 21 year break from working on this car but I am now determined to drive this fall/winter.

You might want to clean the yellow paint off of it too so the bracket grounds to the solenoid.

Let's define "up" as the orientation shown in your first picture.

The battery cable and all the brown wires in the area go on the "top" threaded terminal... the one shown with the jumbo male spade terminal.

The cable from the starter motor goes on the bottom threaded terminal.

The white/red wire from the ignition switch goes to the small spade terminal on the left.

Finally, the mounting bracket may not look like it... but it is an electrical connection.  The solenoid has to make a good contact to the mounting plate and the mounting plate has to make a good contact with the clutch housing.

Footnote:  I hope you are planning on cleaning up and using the solenoid shown in your pictures.  It appears to be original.  The modern reproduction round solenoids are garbage.  Use the old one if it is still operational.

Hello,
Can you tell me which wire goes to which tab on this solenoid?
Thanks.
PS: please disregard the yellow paint.
