Pre lube the oring a little bit with some oil and it will screw in fine. Make sure its in the correct groove.
Thanks! My fear was that I was forcing it too far into the cap therefore not letting it seat in the canister properly and bypassing dirty oil.

I'm changing oil myself for the first time on my 2012 JCW.  I'm using a WIX filter and when I place the filter into the cap it takes some force to get it to "snap" in place so it is held by the cap.  Am I doing this correctly or does the filter not get held by the cap and simply placed in the canister on the engine and the cap screwed on over the filter?
