I think it was something like about the 10th post we established it was ...or rather is ..a 997 Cooper...
But we’d still be interested to see pics of the (alleged?) cross flow head.
Cheers, Ian

Doesn't sound like a genuine Cooper S. Everybody wishes they had a Cooper S or tries to make one adding bits and calling it one.

Lyn,
If you have the vin tag number from the inner wing of engine bay, should be on an aluminum tag, reverse stamped That number CA2S7 or KA2S4 or similar with the rest of the numbers, you can send that to Heritage along with some dosh and get a certificate which will give you the build specs. It will give you the color of the exterior paint, and color of the upholstery along with the engine number. If you have a few engines in the spares collection, this will help id the correct engine. I'd love to see some pix of the car when you get around to it. Also if you plan to sell the whole car with all the spares, I too, would like to make an offer.

Hi Guys,
Have been chatting to my sis on the phone and have a little more info.
(By the way Mini-mike have written to that guy you recommended.)
The car was purchased from new, by a guy called Chris Montague of Chris Montague Racing, Finchley Road, London.
He either had or wanted to keep the original registration plate as my sister remembers her hubby having to a get a reg for it from the DVLA, we estimate he bought it in the first half of the 1970's from Mr Montague, unlike today the registration document does not state when it was accquired, but basically just the two owners.
It does have a cross flow head engine but that is not in the car currently, just sitting in the garage! He put an Austin princess engine into it when they stopped the leaded petrol.
It does have the hinges on the outside of the doors and sliding windows with chrome catches, lots of holes!
The speedo only shows up to 95 mph, but it is possible that has been changed, however, the original one could possibly, probably is, also be in the garage as he never threw anything away!
My sister is now in a place that she has decided that she is going to sell it but we need to find out more info first to try to get a value for it.
There are apparently loads of spares front and rear screens, door hinges and much more that needs to be sorted out, he had boxes and boxes of stuff containing car parts.
If we apply for a heritage certificate would they have the info on it as the registration was changed?
What do you think guys?
Lyn

if you're in the UK, contact Nick Rogers. min-e-bitz.co.uk He's a fountain of info on early minis and also a source for hard to find parts if you decide to restore it.

Malsal...is she interested in selling? Well thats a question, when he was alive, she was constantly nagging "get rid of the mini its just sitting in the garage rotting away" since he passed 2.5 years ago there has been no mention of it!
To me it seems a shame to just leave it there, so I'm not sure if it's just a case of her not quite knowing what to do!

Where in the UK is it located?
If in doubt, flat out. Colin Mc Rae MBE 1968-2007.

Evening,
It is in the UK.
Doug, unfortunately, its too late for for all your suggestions to maintain it in good shape.
It hasn't moved from her garage since 1984, he stopped running it as it ran on leaded petrol and obviously they stopped selling it going to unleaded, well that's why he told us it couldn't go on the road.
Not sure if he started it up now and again, he was always going to get it back on the road but then he got ill so it never happened.
Never a member of any Mini clubs or ever raced it.

If it looks like a duck, walks like a duck, quacks like a duck - it's a duck.
Now a Cooper or Cooper'S is a different type of animal. The Vin number article will at least help decipher
K - Morris Cooper or Cooper 'S
A - A series engine
2S - two door sedan
4 - Mk 1 Morris
and then you have a number after that.
The heritage certificate will tell you more and is worth getting as it will fill in some pieces as to what exactly you have. and give you a better idea as to what it is worth. What also is going to matter is where is it located.
Your profile does not state where you are or how to get in touch with you.
I would also check with the Mini Cooper Register www.minicooper.org to see if the Mk1 register would have any information on the car.
Also check with any Mini Clubs in your area - or in your case your sisters area to see if he was a member of the club, possibly raced with them.

Regardless of whether the car is sold or kept, it would be a good idea to periodically start the car and change its fluids. With any car, especially one this old, things will deteriorate just from sitting. Fuel will go bad in the tank and carburetor. Brake fluid will pick up moisture from the air and start corroding the inside of the system. Also, don't be tempted to drive the car (on the road) if the tires are older than about 7 years and/or if the tire sidewalls are cracking. A little bit of periodic attention will keep the car in shape but it will start falling apart if just left to stand.

I suspect, as I said previous he put the 1275cc engine into it at some stage, however, it is still a 1963 Mini Cooper and must be worth something?
However, we shall still dig around and see what we can find out about it's exact identity.
He purchased the car in the 70's and the last MOT was in 1984, it has sat in the garage eversince!
Thanks again,

OMG, brake booster, voltage regulator???? Ha-ha, does the name Lyn not tell you I am a female?
The frame number is KA2S4/382207 so too low to be in the first batch, thus not an S.
My nephew is also into mechanics so when I get up to see them I will be asking lots of questions and examining said vehicle with him, I have to say it has become a bit of an obsession with me now trying to find out about it and i am learning little by little and finding it quite interesting!
I'm turning into a mini mania..c!
Lyn
Will keep you posted if any info I get.
