And yet we wonder why this is turning into a MINI board, and many have left,   pretty soon all we'll have left are a bunch of bitter old guys that know it all, and are insulted when someone asks Mini 101 questions.  A simple question turns into a pissing contest.

Bill, your grammar is abysmal....so I assume you meant how many cars have I personally imported?

According to my UK Tax Returns for 2008/2009,in that year, 38 Minis from Japan, One ex Embassy Mercedes Limo, 2 EVOs, 2 Subaru RAs, 2 Toyota Glanzas (One of which Guido almost burnt the tyres off doing Doughnuts on local Roundabout, prior to 2009 IMM at Cofton Park.) By my arithmatic, slightly more than a dozen, that year alone?

Bill, according to you, you are on Speed Dial terms with EVERY Senior Politician, Law Enforcement Officer, Border Agent, living, or dead, from Laredo to Outer Mongolia in the last 40 years. ????????

Keep your phone line clear, I hear Donald wants your input on the China Trade War. LoL. ????

The original poster asked a simple question, to which I replied. You then make everything personal. Beginning to understand why nobody wants you at their Events.

Malsal.. you and I are the only one here at MM that have a TWIC card.. I heard that CBP is going to STOP allowing guest and escorts for entry. and that a TWIC will be   a MUST for entry to the ports. btw  my CBP agent told me that SCAC and ACE now also required to import cars to Charleston. SC.. ( as  all the ports of entry from Canada and Mexico ).. big al  and I had to do SCAC and ACE a few years ago at Buffalo NY port of entry.. later bc

Along with the other comments you will need a TWIC card to pick up the car at the port or pay a nominal fee of $50 plus to be escorted into the port.

If in doubt, flat out. Colin Mc Rae MBE 1968-2007.

Bill, I've never EVER had a cigarette in my mouth, far less crack.  The £30 fee I was talking about was what WW charge me for doing the Export Paperwork, and notifying CBP the car was coming. We both know there are shipping charges, & Handling Charges, at BOTH ends. I would still rather pay the US Import Costs, than what we get charged here in the UK by HMRC.  They even Tax us on the Shipping Costs, whereas, US only charge on car value.

Driving Semis for 35 years, meant I was PERSONALLY, in EVERY major Dock in the UK. Southampton was a regular port of call for dropping vehicles off, and picking vehicles up.  So I know how the system operates down there.

Sorry to the original Poster....but you make your own mind up about whose advice you want to follow. Also, in my personal experience, don't use K-line.  Yes, they are slightly cheaper, but WW are a better run outfit. IMO.
Especially when it comes to taking care of your vehicle on their Ships. Read between the lines on that comment!!

jim  you must be smoking CRACK.??. all the charges were NOT a mere 30 quid..  total. as you have duty 2.5 %  import bond..  wallenius handing fees..  usually about $550 per car..shipping usually about $1000 per car..  btw I try  use K LINE. is it is cheaper. and use [email protected]   and Charise at western overseas here in the USA for import.. later bc

Contact Debbie Greenwood at Walenius Wilhelmsen in Southampton.  Ask her to do ALL the Export Documents, and notify CBP about impending arrival of Mini.  Arrange with her, to pay ALL Fees involved, when vehicle arrives in Baltimore. It's a LOT cheaper to pay all the charges in the USA. Last time I shipped a Mini, the Paperwork was £30.
Any decent Broker at Baltimore can clear an incoming vehicle, it's not rocket science. I've even cleared them myself and it's easy, so long as you have a tolerant CBP officer.
Regarding delivery to the Docks....go to Services Section in Classic Car Weekly, and you will find people who will collect the car, and drop it off at Southampton Docks.

The two big ones are K Line and Wallenius..fyi   You  MUST have  a export customs agents in the UK to FILE the CBP 10 + 2  two prior to boat leaving the UK. and also a Customs agent  here in USA..  my  CBP agent will NOT import for anyone that does NOT have a CBP bond..  later bc
