Should idle fine - there is something else amiss.

Go back to basics.

Check the valve clearances, static timing, reset the jet, reset the throttle cable, gap the plugs (.028" is a good start), check the dwell angle if you're on points, check for oil in the dashpot, then try again.

My money is on timing.

I've had to use a different needle and dashpot spring when I ran a schneider dual pattern cam (what they call 264-74) than what I had been used to previously running.

I'll have a look on what it was, but I used an air/fuel meter to help me with the tuning. The spring (Not sure if it was red or yellow) is what provided the biggest difference or me when setting up the lower end of the mixture including idle.

I reckon you have an air leak somewhere.
I run a 282 deg cam and 1.5 rockers on my 1360, it idles fine at 1000-1100 rpm.

Hello
First time asking a question in this forum.
My son bought a 1975 MINI, 1275 cc engine. Car was idling very high around 2K RPM and could not be adjusted.
I thought there were vacuum leaks, so I rebuilt the carb (HIF44). Turns out that if I tune it at much lower than 2000 RPM, then the car stalls. Going through the records my son got with the car we noticed that the previous owner had installed a 264/268 cam. My question is if this wilder cam needs that kind of idle RPM not to stall?
Or something else is at work here?
i welcome any suggestions or opinions on this matter. Thank you.
