Option 2 is easier if you own property in another Sate or have a relative or trusted friend willing to register it for you in his/her State and take the liability of you driving it in California.

Legal in Vermont or Montana yes. Not legal in your home state though...

Option #2. Discuss in dark rooms far away from public internet forums. Or if discussing in public, done with NO identifying information.

Option #4. Run it on English plates. I know people who have done that for over a decade and never registered their car. Would insurance pay if they had an accident? Maybe, maybe not. Your choice whether to take the risk...

dmplos04..  all classic cars with GAS..must  be PRE 1976 to register in Cali.. with NO exceptions..  try G and K there in Cali.. they are the best.. but  more like $8-10k to get Smog approved by CARB..  Malsal gave the ONLY three options.. later bc

You have three choices.

!. Go through the smog process which is about $5k to get certified and register it legally.

2. Register it in any of the other 49 States illegally.

3. Or you could sell it and buy an already registered in CA Mini.

Good luck.

I have an 85' mini I would like to register in California. I know it's impossible but, I'm hoping someone can guide me or help me in any way. I would appreciate it very much. We brought it from the UK and would like to get her legal, possibly trying to avoid smogging.
I can't stand to see her parked in the garage.

Thanks!!

This is my mini "The Joker"
