I was driving home from the grocery store and my 2006 R50 sputtered really rough, so I pulled off into a parking space and turned it off. Now it wont start. I towed the car home and started trying to figure out what the issue is.
I replaced the fuel pump thinking that may be the issue. Then checked fuel pressure and that seems fine. I did the screwdriver from plug wire trick to test for spark and im getting nothing. So, the car is cranking, not getting spark. Where do I go from here? IT has a brand new battery purchased a month before the car died. I also replaced the alternator during this whole ordeal, after the car died. It also will not connect to a code reader. Everything seems normal while trying to start except it will not fire.
Thank you so much for any help!

Were there any recent changes or upgrades to the car? or even a fresh tank of gas?
Keep us updated on what you find....

2 things to check are the coil itself and the crank position sensor. Generally speaking, a position sensor is a hall effect sensor that sends a signal to the brain box of when to fire the coil which will in turn send a spark to the spark plug at the correct time.
There are often times other sensors involved in this "timing" process like camshaft position sensors as well. Do a quick youtube search for crankshaft position sensor and mini cooper R50 and you'll find out where they are and how to replace them.
one example

and this one is the camshaft position sensor

The "not connect to a code reader" is a bit confusing. Perhaps try a different code reader or have someone else help you to make sure you are connecting it correctly?
