They are sure not around as they are as rare as hens teeth in good shape.

Especially when you consider how much interior trim would have to be removed to install the wood. Also, if they had the metal window frame (to keep the glass intact) where are all those frames now?

Also i would assume they were sent with the side window external trim in place and then have to remove it and the interior trim to fit the wood. Seems like a lot of extra expense and work.

I'm guessing it was originally a non wood Estate.  It doesnt say wood was shipped with it. Someone wood have added would later.
I thin the idea of wood being shipped inside and uninstalled is BS also.

Yes... it would be interesting to see how “factory” the fixing arrangements are....

It has wood. I have taken it off and refinished the original wood. Can tell that application holes are factory.

So, is your car got wood on it or is/was it a steel sided wagon?

I also thought this was not true until I got my Heritage Cert in 1998. If Al's statement above is not correct, what does this notation mean on my Heritage document?

I say BS! How and why would they do that ONLY to Mini estates? They were importing Morris Minor estates at the same time as Minis, and they HAVE to have the wood installed at the factory. That's what holds the roof up! Also, what about Morgans? I'm sure they didn't ship the wood separate from the body. Someone is trying to pull something on you big guy!

Correct, we do have Beavers in Canada and in fact at one time it was our National animal but lately “Beavers of a different stripe are more common “

I'm gonna chime in here.  I would think that if the kit was off the car, it would have been prefinished. that is stained if stain was used, and clear coated.   The ocean trip is so full of humidity that the kit, unless sealed would not fit the car due to it absorbing moisture. It would likely twist and swell. Once it's fastened to the vehicle, it's more stable, but each piece has got to be finished on all 6 sides.

This is incorrect Big Al i checked Snopes.
The problem was when they were shipping the Woody's to Canada as they were at the docks and the Canadian beavers were chewing the wood off the side of them especially in the Winter months when the beavers could not find the forests due to the snow.

Hi Al. Know this is a topic I brought up on a Facebook forum. Is the above quote one you found in research? As well as being told this "fact" before, I thought I had read that above quote somewhere but can not find it in any books I have. This fact is a reason I have seen my 63 Traveller as being rare as a direct US import. (no offence to all you right-handers)

I think quite a few wood kits were stained & finished at the dealerships which explains the variences in colour and surface quality of the wood, if not actually installed at the dealers.
