If you've got pictures I wouldn't mind it taking a look. Although I do agree that shipping might be horrendous.

I've got a full MPi Monaco interior that I don't want as the seats don't fit me.  Shipping might be a bummer though.

The car is orange, and the planned interior would be brown leather. But I'll reupholster seats that don't have the right color, the real struggle is getting the SPI/MPI seats.

Make sure you check the shipping costs.... Last time (a long time ago I bought seats from the UK the shipping was pretty much the same price as the seats (to the East Coast).

I did a bit more looking around and found that 7ent has almost a $1k markup on their seats. If I were to order direct from Newton, their vinyl Suffolk Seats run just under $700 per seat. 

I initially saw This Page in the Heritage Inventory of MiniMania referencing the Newton Sport Seats that don't appear to be available anymore.

I think I should probably start a new thread once I've gotten the Mini I'm after. Just waiting on the inspection and appraisal for my bank.

I'm in Dallas, TX. It'll be just under a couple weeks until the sale goes through, so I'll be more seriously looking for actual seats then. This will be my first Mini so I'm very excited! If you've got pictures of the seats I wouldn't mind taking a look to see if they're what I'm after. Thanks

where are you located?  I have front (recliner) and rear out of an 80s Mini (no clue).  You could have them redone.

ps.. yea.. and I am also a life long VEGAN..  does NOT help... to keep thin..and running streak of 20 years plus of NOT missing a day..  since the TIRE IRON thingie..  later bc

Late model Mini seats were the same as Metro seats. Rover wanted to upgrade the front seats in a Mini, but did not want to go thru the process of getting them certified by the EU. Since the Metro seats were already certified they used them. Much more comfortable than the previous Mini seats, that is, unless you are fat. Fat folks (like me) don't fit in the later seats without using seat extenders to get more space between my belly and the steering wheel. Also, really noticeable in a Mini PU, as the space is limited anyway. Luckily, BC is skinny or he wouldn't fit. Now, if he continues with the Red Stripes and if he gives up running...

Yeah that's probably where I got the "Suffolk" name from. In reality they're similar enough to the SPI/MPI seats that it's just the general style I'm after, so the information you all have given is already a huge help.

If I'm not mistaken they came with most 90's model Minis, so that seems to line up with the onset of SPI/MPIs. I'll keep the 2 door bit in mind. It's just my fiance and I but even then you're right about back seat access being important.

If you go for Metro seats, try to get them from a 2-door. Front Metro seats from a 4-door don't have a forward fold function. The most you can do is crank the seatback recline forward. Even if you don't carry passengers very often in your Mini, the forward flip is much more convenient for throwing stuff in the back, etc.

They look like retrimmed SPi/MPi/Metro/MGF seats - have a look for some scrap Miata seats, cheaper and fit nicely.

Thanks, I'll have to look into those. So long as they fit and look similar enough, they could work. Sounds like I might have to deal with the current bucket seats and then find my way to Mini60 or another meet with some vendors. I'm not sure where else to look. I'll be out of the research phase and into a proper search once we finalize the sale. Thanks!

With any luck the sale will go through and I'll be the new owner of a 1990 Mini City in another couple of weeks (inspection and appraisal need to happen first). The only problem is that it has bucket seats and for both safety sake and aesthetics, I'd like to upgrade to a pair of Suffolk front seats that recline with a headrest. I plan on having them reupholstered with new foam anyhow, so the condition doesn't really matter so long as the frames and springs inside are good.

 

Does anyone know of a good source for Suffolk seat frames? I've found plenty of complete seats through various online retailers such as 7ent, but they are fully upholstered and expensive as a result. I'll include a link to their listing as an example of what I'm searching for. Thanks for the help!
