I own both a classic and 2 modern MINI's.
That exclamation point can show up for any # of reasons. (Low tire pressure is not one of them and is in fact a different one.....Al !)
Anyways, when you FIRST start your car, look at the dash...the initial warning will usually show.
An Engine code or low fuel are 2 of the most common ones.
The small "!" in a triangle >> is merely a REMINDER, that something else is amiss
and isn't a specific code pertaining to a specific error or item needing attention.
More serious ones will actually STAY and block the electronic speedometer readings.
YMMV,

YMMV,
~ 30 minutes in a Mini is more therapeutic than 3 sessions @ the shrink. ~

I know very little about MINI brakes but it is my understanding that they have electrical pad wear sensors. The brake warning you have now may indicate you need pads or that you need a new wear sensor.
If you plan on doing the brake work yourself you will need one of the piston retraction tools. Some people improvise with needle nose pliers. However, Harbor Freight sells a universal kit for about $50 (link below).

I'm guessing the owners manual would say that a scheduled service is due. The service procedure would also include resetting such notifications - if the garage doing the service has the equipment to reset the notification system.
.

If no one replies, take it to a MINI dealer and ask.
