Thanks for all the responses. Good point on the pictures but was unnable to figure it out. I also heard from MED and they simply remove them and run without.

Zami,

  • Yes, those restrictors are stock items in cross drilled S cranks.
Replacements can be made by any machinist and/or most crankshaft shops
Yes they are pressed in - but top crankshaft guys sometime put a small weld bead in the chamfer so the plug cannot escape like yours and other have.
You need those restrictors to maintain oil pressure and get those bearings the amount of oil they need.

One of the top crankshaft guys is Mile High Crankshaft in Denver.

you might want to post a pic if you can and also consult a machine shop.

I found a groove in the #1 rod bearing upon tear down. On inspecting the crank journal I found that the cross drilled oil hole had a small brass like restrictor plug that had come up slightly and grooved the bearing. So I checked the rest of the rod journals and all of the cross drilled holes have this brass oil restrictor. Is this a stock item. Where would I get a replacement? Is this pressed in? What if I removed it and ran without it? Any issue?
