Environment Canada now confirms there were SIX tornadoes in our area on Friday. One of them first touched down about 1/2 mile from my house. Luckily it headed away.

Thanks for asking! Yes, we are ok. I was not affected by it and I was one of the lucky ones who did not lose power.

Glad to hear everybody else in the area is safe too.

Thanks Deb, good to know.
As of yesterday afternoon on the Ottawa side there were about 400 sets of traffic lights without power. Driving somewhere we got so used to treating them like 4-way stops. When we came to one that was functioning, for a second we had to think about how they are supposed to work.

Most places have had their power restored but city wide, schools are closed today because they can't run the school buses safely and effectively. Federal and city employees have been advised to stay home as well.

I don't know if Miguel and family are OK. (I am.)
Ottawa was hit by two tornadoes about 2 hours apart. Many areas are still without power. It may be days before he can report in.

Attached is a map showing current outages (as of Sunday morning) on the Ontario side. I have added in fuschia the approximate track of the first tornado which hit the village of Dunrobin, then moved across the river into Quebec and then east over Gatineau, where Miguel lives (somewhere).
The second tornado hit near the centre of the map (shown in lime green), putting one of the main hydro transfer stations out of commission. It serves most of the western half of Ottawa but not the Gatineau Quebec side. They say it may take a week or more to restore the transfer station. They are re-routing power around it. We lost power here for about 22 hours. We are lucky.
