What other companies do you guys know of that had Mini Panel Vans as fleet vehicles in Canada?

I have the phone number Bill, but thanks.

You could go with Ontario brewers retail. They had road maps you could use while drinking beer as well.

BC Telephone Company had a fleet of Mini Panel Vans as well. They were used for several years. Not sure if they were delivered in primer or what years.. hard to find the info. My Van project is one of the ex BC Tel vans..  they had the color scheme of this van here.. finding these colors under the other 5 or 6 layers of other colors..

All Minis delivered to Canada were registered as the year they were sold.
So a 1979 built Mini sold in 1980 was registered as a 1980.
Air Canada had a fleet of Woody wagons as Tarmac vehicles...

We don't do 'model year' like North America does.  A car is built and registered and that is its year.  The date of registration is used instead of the build date - my first Elf is a '68 as it was registered in Jan '68 even though it was built in July '67.

I also had a van sold new in Canada, it arrived in primer grey and and was then painted by Rexall drugs for their use, so does not surprise me.

Tim,

If that was the Van that was for sale in Calgary a few weeks back, I believe it was a BC Tel unit. I think they ordered a batch in primer so they could paint them themselves. Could be wrong...

Ron

....no sorry, the one I was looking at had a build date of Oct 23, 67.

Cool

Bill, I haven't called heritage about the colour yet as the certificate just arrived yesterday.  I'll send them a message and see what else I can figure out.

Spitz, I also have a 69 MKII Saloon that was built in November 69 - but sold in Canada as a 70.  Has sliding windows, four holes for wipers and a MKIII bulkhead.  I think they were using up older rear-ends and shipping them off to the colonies... .  I think I'll have the Van registered as a 68.

Any other input?

Tim.

It may have been "marketed" in CA as a 69.....although I would still consider your van a 68 if built in Sept.

I have a March 61 van btw

Nowadays it seems the next year cars start coming out in June!

I have an Austin Mini Panel Van built in Early Sept. 1968 that I have a few questions about.

First:  It was built on Sept 12th 1968, dispatched in Sept. 13th 1968 to Canada.  Would a car built at this point in the year be a 1968 or 1969 model year?

Second:  My certificate has the exterior colour listed as 'Primer'.  I assume this was common with the commercial vehicles as they would be painted in company colours once delivered.  Has anyone had this before on their certificate, or was there a specific reason that a panel van would be shipped in primer.  I also assume here that the inside and bottom would still have been painted in a finish colour (White?) prior to assembly.  Any input here?

Thank's for your help Mini Guru's!

Tim.
