I thought it might be something like that.
I could not find any photos/articles indicating if the heater was offset or not.
i was able to locate the holes below the switch plate and since they were not centered I thought the heater might be offset.
thanks for quick response.  I can now sleep tonight!

Heater is biased away from the driver up against one bracket on firewall, will have two sets of holes under switch plate for faceplate end mounting screws.  Can secure with a nut on just the one side bracket or can also add a long (coupling) nut and stud/bolt to extend the other side of the heater to rest in the other bracket.

What am I missing?
the heater brackets on the firewall are 9.25 inches apart.
the distance from the end of the bolts extending out of the heater is 8.75 inches.
therefore both bolts can not be inserted in the brackets.
is the heater positioned directly in the center of the switch plate or sim,it offset?  
This is a 1966 S LHD.
