True, cost of the truck is a big factor. Personally, if I’m going to spend big $ for a transporter, I’d rather go for something cool like the VW Type 2 single cab:

And then there's the cost of a pick-up truck. It might be cheaper to get an old truck, remove the box and build onto the chassis a small version of a roll-back tow truck bed. The lift height would also be much lower.

.

I must add (from recent experience) that it's easy to fit a Mini in a pickup truck. Just remove everything except the shell!

I've had the Lemons moke in the back of my pickup to go to Miller Motoraports Park. I got some over-fender ramps from some dude who had a fat tired Hummer that he towed out to the desert. They fit perfectly in the bed of my pickup so I can use long ramps that i bolted to my bed and a harbor freight remote control winch to pull the mokeup into the bed-- even with 15x7" rims on it. Mine are way overbuilt though and could be easy to make lighter for mini-only use. FWIW, the 10" wheeled UK moke was delivered to me in the back of a dodge dually pickup and fit neatly betwen the wheelwells on 145 stock tires.

I've been working on a way to get a mini into the back of a pickup for a while now. Pulling the racecar in the trailer more than doubles the ferry fare which adds up.

I wonder if I can steal some of that for my back-of-a-napkin design?!
