I'm writing to let everyone know that The Host Hotel - Westin Snomass has, afaik, a 30 day cancellation policy, and for many who would arrive Sunday or Monday, that 30 days is approaching fast.
I've unfortunately, had to cancel my MM EMW trip, and cancelled my reservation. Westin folks have been nice enough, however, they have to adhere to policies like:
30 days advance notice of cancellation of a reservation
can only cancel monday thru friday with the Group reservations folks ( or call a huge center and wait on hold )
forever being transferred into voicemail of the folks there in Snomass
a slight feeling of ineptitude or confusion each person I talked to
All of that complaining aside; I really hope you all have a great meet, and enjoy the beauty of this area. It is breathtaking.
Best regards,
MSH

If you're in the Denver area during the week of June, 17th through the 21st, you can stop by Ax and Allies, (a local shop that services British cars) and they will put your car on the exhaust gas analyzer and get your timing and mixture set for driving in the Colorado Mountains.
The Techs from Ax and Allies will be at East Meets West Mini Meet during the week to assist in any adjustments but I'm not certain that they will have a portable exhaust gas analyzer in Snowmass for the Meet.
This service will be free of charge to Mini Meet attendees.
Cheers,

You guys need to contact the host hotel and tell them to open up the block of room reserved for our group. The EMW room block has only five single king rooms left and NO double rooms. The various on-site reservationists have been telling me for over a week that they are going to open up the block for additional rooms, but is yet to occur. They took my phone number and assured me that they would call me once additional rooms were released, but that has not yet happened. Just a few minutes ago I was told that they are not sure if rooms will be added to the block.
With two months to go before the event, and assuming that many people like me, are now trying to make a room reservation, it's time for you guys to step in make this problem disappear.
Please let us know what you find out.

There will be a car "altitude tuning" station in Denver.
If coming in from airport, add another 30 or so.

Because Suzy has never been at altitude and several chums had problems recently on MITTS at slightly lower heights, we're ducking out of this one. Sad doesn't even cover it as MMEMW19 doens't clash with FoS so I could easily have done both.
Hey Alex, there are a few people who do have trouble with altitude, but it really is very rare. Most problems are caused by not knowing how to adjust. I live at altitude about half the time and close to sea level the rest, so I'm constantly adjusting.
I've run work events at the same altitude without any problems with people flying in from sea level.
1) Dehydration - this is the *big* one. The air is dryer and it's hot so you have to drink a LOT of water. If you don't, you will feel bad (dizzy, headaches). It's really important. If you wait until you are thirsty, it's too late - you are dehydrated. Drink water and 90% of problems are avoided.
2) Alcohol – you just have to be aware it affects you faster, but again the real problem is dehydration. One beer, 2 waters and you are just fine.
3) Be sensible with exercise – don’t try to hike up a mountain right after you arrive at altitude. You will get out of breath much faster. Not dangerous unless you have an underlying health condition, but take some time to adjust before doing anything crazy.
Finally, if you are worried about the altitude, adjust slowly. Spend a few days in Denver before going up to Snowmass. Hope you will reconsider.
Edit: Just clarifying my earlier statement
1) The majority of problems people experience at altitude is due to dehydration. Prevention is simple - drink more water. Cure is rest and water
2) Altitude sickness is different, but often made worse by dehydration. Prevention is accclimatizing by spending some time at medium altitude before going to high. Cure is going back down to lower altitude.
