Thanks, if you look at the intake pics the epoxy coating was peeling off. There was no soft mount kit fitted and the element did not fit the K&N housing the linkage was just as bad but was left hanging from cables in engine compartment. I must have 5/6 different Weber linkage linkages this is not my favorite while it did clean up nice and once I found all the small bits it works well.

Thanks Tim, I'm not sure there is any longer much interest here. I can pump you all the pics you can stand. Roger I'm not hi jacking your thread. If you'd rather we can post pics elsewhere. Steve (CTR)

Some one who can post pictures call my cell 7 five 7 8 eight 0 9 two 8 three with your cell and I would love to share pictures of this project. Might be interesting right here. I have maybe 400 pics of this build. Why? As I get older I need the help of pics as my memory is not as good as it was. Also after a couple of months customers start to forget what a mess they sent me. I sure wish the shop who pulled the engine had taken some pics as well as tagging everything they disconnected. There are relays and lights everywhere and all that rally dash stuff.

Having worked for 25 year in a auto machine shop I was sure the parts missing would still be at the machine shop that checked out the job down south. Turns out all they had was the temp sender, water outlet, leaking heater valve. Outlet corroded so it's cheaper to replace the sender than mail that junk around. Thanks Steve (CTR)

I recently received a call from one of my retired vintage racers. One of his well heeled friends had taken his classic to a shop which charged him close to $4000. and he didn't make it home less than 20 miles. Following a unpleasant difference of opinion without a positive result he took the car to another local shop that mostly does Jag and Land Rover. They pulled the power unit and stripped it. The block was bored 73.5, center main had spun making a mess of the main as well as the block. The cyl. head was cracked. I believe he was charged $1500. and told perhaps another shop would be a good idea. I was able to arrange pick up way south and dropped at my shop for $500. Turns out this is not just another mini. A MK 1 Cooper S Historic Rally car.  Yes , we could have had the block line bored then sleeved down, the crank may clean at 30/40 ( I have not checked for run out ) and there was talk of spray welding the head. Punching the numbers over and over again replacement beat repair all over.

Work included complete rebuild of a four synchro remote with SC/CR gear set, rebuiilding four pin diff.. Surface flywheel and back plate and set up clutch. Replace the ring gear and starter. The wok was worn so I replace it the plunger, TO bearing , arm, push rod, slave and clevis pins. Boring a 1275 GT block to .060 new metro crank, recondition and mag  Inno 1300 rods, surface block for zero deck. Balance new crank, new two part S damper, light steel flywheel and back plate, orange spring. The replacement head is  Calver stage three. The power unit is fully assembled with rebuild 45 DCOE 9, new water pump with large pulley, new alt. pulley also large dia. Kent 276 cam with lifters, oil pump, adjustable duplex with Iwis chain. And a new thick rocker shaft for the 1.5 forged rockers and shimmed to align with valve tips.

The unit is mounted and ready to run in on my test stand which allows me to look a water temp. RPM, OP, O2, EGT, vacuum and fuel pressure. With a gallon of antifreeze, 6 qt. break in oil, spark plugs, fan belt, thermostat, rad cap, hoses, clamps, motor mounts. We are at $10,000. ready to installed and tested. That does include new pot and CV joints assembled.  Steve (CTR)

My objective is to get the mini running.  When I purchased it (1993) the owner indicated it had been sitting since 1980.  In 1996 I did have some engine work done on the short block and cyl head.  Parts included pistons, bearings, timing chain.  R&R was performed on cyl head.  Sono test on block, crankshaft and cyl head.  Engine has not been reassembled and has been sitting for 20 years.  Not sure what may need to be redone.  Thanks

Somewhere in that location, location, location fits price, price, price.
In God we trust, all others must pay cash ... (policy due to non payment for parts)

Roger, what assistance is it that you need on the 'S engine?  Do you have a budget for the rebuild?
Are you looking for some parts?  Are you going to race or just for street?

I heard of a rebuild that was over $10,000.00 on a Cooper'S engine/transmission done in California.  You can easily spend upwards of $2,000.00 on pistons, cam, machine work (boring block, block prep, new cam bearings install, rod sizing, crank ground) bearings (rod and main), gaskets ... and then there's the shop time for assembly.

I didn't say he shouldn't talk to you, I just thought it makes more sense to take your car somewhere close before you take it a couple hundred miles away. BTW, I think he was asking about a disassembled engine. Where did shipping transmissions come into play?

Yes, Frank is much closer to his current location. I don't think it will hurt for him to talk with me. Now that I think of it, I have shipped trannys all over the US to Spain, SA, NZ. and UK. Thanks Steve (CTR)

Just a thought, but West Chester is right outside Philadelphia and Cooper Tune is in SE Virginia.
