 Mini MK1 door seal install

Door seals are in and the doors close reasonably well!
the seals I had were the round rubber type.
The door channel on the seal was not extremely tight so I did crimp them at several locations.
I placed the seam behind the door strap stiffener which hides it quite well.
i know the boot seal has clips.  Are there clips for the door seal?

I had the same issues with fitting new seals on my doors. I ended up going to www.mcmaster.com and buying a bunch of different sizes of seals to figure out which ones would fit best. I just ordered short pieces to try and then ordered the right lengths once I figured it out. I actually ended up with different sizes on each door.

I removed the old seals and purchased new ones 20 years ago.
i am just now getting back into putting the mini back together.
possibly newer seals are better.
i’ll try these first.
i have read that the seals will compress over time.
i will try to use clamps to compress them little by little and see if this helps.
if not I can purchase newer seals and see if they work any better.

Agreed, finding the correct seal is the tricky part. I know you’ve been working this car but hold on a second. What’s wrong with the seals that are on the car now ?? Is that rubber old and deteriorated or not there. Or they just stick out too far when you close the door. On mine I have found there’s a sweet spot, so to speak, for closing the door if I don’t close it with enough “force” it’ll stick out but yet I don’t want to “slam” the door. At this point I really don’t remember what kind of seals I have on there now but I remember doing this because the first time the rubber was incorrect. And there’s always those square step things that can be adjusted

Getting the correct seal is the real trick...and hardest part. Original seals are squishy solid foam whereas the replacements I have found are of the modern tubular rubber construction.. They're usually too thick.

You can sometimes win a small amount by tapping the door edges that the seals sit on slightly inwards.

You generally don't need glue until the seals get old and sloppy .... but I guess that depends on how well they fit in the first place.

Moving on ... the door seals are next (1966 “S”).

when I did an initial test the door would not close.
i did not want to force them.
i could not find much searching the internet.

Is  some type of adhesive applied?

any tips and tricks?
