Also, manual says upon starting car, the fan should come on briefly then turn off. My car doesn't. High speed only comes on when AC is activated. Concerns me as I bought car last year with a blown head gasket, spent many Saturdays and Sundays to replace it. Got her running great but concerned that she is not as cool as she should be...

The ECM drives the electric fan via relays (see relays in front power distribution box). A resistor is connected in the supply line for stage 1 at the electric fan for the purpose of reducing the voltage supply of the fan in stage 1. In stage 2, the system voltage is fed directly to the electric motor of the fan. Corresponding to requirements and depending on the coolant temperature, the ECM drives the corresponding relay and thus influences the speed of the electric fan. The pressure sensor for the air conditioning system also has an influence on the drive of the electric fan.
