Also, Welcome! Your will find there is a world of knowledge here on all mini"s. Like you I have had Mustangs for years, and only for the last four years have I owned a 62 mini, also needing plenty of sorting. Knowing the year of the car and drive train type and year is big on getting the correct info online. I am in Farmington MI if that's anywhere near you.

First, welcome aboard.  If possible, please update your profile as much as you are comfortable so people can find you.  There are often local people nearby who will be willing to come by and offer help.

You said your car is a 1970 but there is always the chance that it is some other year of manufacture.  Posting pictures will help members here confirm the year of manufacture.  This will be especially important with your car since it is customized as a convertible.

You will find it invaluable to have a service manual for the car.  Even though your car has been customized, there will still be a lot of applicable data.  Haynes is always a reasonable first manual.  I like having as many manuals as possible.  In the meantime, look at the page linked below which includes links to many early car wiring diagrams.

Relative to your current problem, the running and headlights do not pass through the ignition switch so you have a supply problem to sort out there.  Check for supply voltage (heavy brown or brown/red wire) on the main lighting switch.  The turn signals are powered only with the ignition on and therefore a separate issue from your running lights.  If the car also has hazard lights, make sure they work first.  Cycle the hazard switch several times, then check if the turn signals work.  Where there are hazard lights there are two flashers, one for hazards, one for turn signals.  Power for the turn signal circuit flows THROUGH the hazard light switch first.  If there are problems with the hazards lamps the car will often have problems with the turn signals.

To start of i am completely new to mini coopers. I have a 1970 dodge challenger that ive been fixing for tbe last 2 years including replacing frame parts so im experienced with cars in general but a mini cooper and a 440 challenger couldn't really be more different. My mom bought this mini cabrio sight unseen and had it shipped from Missouri to here in michigan. It was supposedly bored and stroked in germany where it was originally bought so all of the info is in german. The guy we bought it from doesnt know much about cars so there are quite afew problems. Im gonna slowly fix them over the summer for my mom and first on the list is the fact that the turn signals dont work. None of the lights come on at all left, right, front or back and i have no idea whats wrong. I can only see what looks like one flasher under the dash. Is that normal? I know every other car ive worked on has 2 but every other car ive worked weighs about twice as much. Does anyone have any experience with a problem like this? Any help is appreciated. Thanks.
