Check that the fuel gauge is supplied with 10v from the voltage regulator rather than straight 12v from the fusebox - they get upset with the wrong supply.

Revisiting the engine number plate, it looks like to could be a B or an E instead of the impossible I.

Photoshop can only do so much, but it looks like it could be an E, or maybe a B. Need to brush a bit of paint off and see for sure.

99HC20 is valid 998cc, too, but I don't see a C (or E) on that tag.

This from the Mini Forum:

"99HE20's come from the 1st unleaded minis, which are the MIni Sky, Mini Rose and the Mini Thirty, ( circa 1989 )

Generally good strong engines, and you are correct that they have a 3.1 final drive."

Cool

99H I20 isn't a valid number - the 998 series only went up to G according to my microfiches.

Could it be a B instead of an I ?

I was going to say look a little further to the right. I think you will find this a ghost town most weekends. Following everyone who knows anything or gives a crap leaving it seems the trouble makers left as well. It appears you have a 998 A +. I'm currently building a pair of A + 998 s to a fairly high spec. One is pre sold and a special tranny is being prepared for it. Being a driver street unit a cam for broad flat torque curve was chosen. MSC intake, single HIF 38 and maniflow header lead free 295 cyl head. Light steel flywheel, two piece Cooper balancer and late press fit small bore rods.

The second will be the same build spec other than twin 1 1/4 SU s and slightly hotter cam shaft. Unless something changes a ultra litr pre verto flywheel and back plate. This second one will either get to pull my daily driver while I freshen it's power unit or find a new home with someone needing a hot 998.

I picked up both blocks friday, I have them rough bored leaving .005 to hone out to finished size. I also picked up the first balance assembly which it turns out was the closest we have ever done for an A series less than 6 grams total correction.

The 295 cyl. heads are both getting hard seats lead free O/S valves and a chunk shaved off. Should have them back this coming week.

Pleased to say the new Metro 1275 cranks I have been buying are very well balanced right out of the box.

Welcome back rebuilding is going on maybe we can put the forum back together. Steve (CTR)

Its been so long since i logged in that i was told that my old user id (that i don't even remember) is gone with the old system... lol.. Would of been nice to jump right in and look at all the old convos.....

But first thing's first... I've had this mini for a few days and i need to order some parts.. Valve cover gasket... Some brake pads...  Motor mounts and stable bars.....
The vin tells me that this is a 998...  (Car is a 1989 RHD 4SP)  I'm not too familiar with engine numbers...  I did look on the site and i didn't even see a WF anything....  Not sure if this motor is original to the car.. The last owner was not much help...  Just want to make sure i order the correct parts....
Thanks in advance for any help!!!
