+1 Dan, I was almost certain it was you who had given me that tip. Bravo, and thank you Dan. I really appreciate your help ( and everyone’s help ). For a small follow up check - had to take manifold of with carb- ....it will show you how badly my mechanics skills have deteriorated, and I will ask for a bit more help. Peace all

You don't need to disconnect anything to use the lift-pin - this test is done with the engine warmed and idling, air cleaner in place etc.
To do the "clunk" test, just remove the dashpot cap and damper piston (where the oil goes). Between gravity and the internal dashpot spring, the dashpot will drop unrestricted. If your jet and needle are aligned/centred properly , you'll get the clunk.

Hi everybody. I’m going to keep this quick ( I’ve been bedridden for 5 days with my back aching ) so I’ve found that my carb ( HS-HF4 ) has the piston lift pin. I know that lifting it about 1 mm will tell me if my engine is running rich, or running poor. What I need to know is what parts ( throttle cable etc , if anything ) to remove. Also, how does the “ clunk “ test work again ? Specifically, is the dashpot removed, and/or anything else ? I’m going to try this in about a 1/2 hour, but I will check to see if anyone has left any tips.
