There is a positive side to this story 6 lives were saved by Logan Boulet, one of the young players, who signed his donor card on his 21st birthday.
This has inspired thousands of Canadians to sign their drivers license as organ donors...

Still sad...

Very sad, both.
Actually the Bathurst one was a lot more predictable than this one. Inside info says the van had bald tyres and brakes pulled, driver had been up from early morning and was overtired, he failed to slow down and lost control when he drove into the snow on the shoulder and lost control and overcorrected. It was entirely his fault and totally preventable. The similarity was the needless and horrifying loss of life to young athletes. Not having a hockey jersey or stick, I wore my All Blacks rugby jersey. Terrible tragedy.

Yes Spitz a ghastly crash and horrible deaths & injuries.  Can't imagine that those on the bus had any idea of what befell them.  A town and families & billet families and some communities far away in mourning...as are hockey players & fans worldwide.  For example, the Ukrainian national team showed up at the Canadian Embassy in their jerseys to show support.

I know the RCMP accident investigation team is at work but the crash took me back immediately to my thoughts in Iowa of "dying in those trees over there" as a tractor trailer bore down on us from behind on a 2-lane highway.  However, "not today" saw us able to keep the Mini's left hand wheels on the very edge of the pavement as the right side pounded along on the lower, rough shoulder.  Then the same rig ran a sedan off the highway on the next prairie rise.  No accident!

I believe that driver was zoned out, half awake, driving in a stupor, simply not seeing smaller vehicles ahead.  Remarkably, the driver stopped at a RED light a few miles farther west, where we caught up and got photos of the company & vehicle ID.

There are unguided 'missiles' on our highways.

As we all can’t go to Humbolt Saskatchewan to pay our respects, some people are hanging a hockey stick on their front door in respect and memory to the lost athletes and their families

I am fresh out of hockey sticks, so l will hang out my old goalie skates to honour and remember them

The truck is heading West on 335, bus North on 35. Both are 100kph highways

Truck has a stop sign and flashing red light.  Trees create a blind spot.....but you're stopping, right.

I have a hunch that the truck makes this drive all the time and has a habit of "slowing" at the sign.... a common practice in these wide open empty spaces.

The tandem truck was fully loaded.
There are no rumble strips on 335.....I think there soon will be.

There are also 6 crosses in the ditch by the trees for 3 adults and 3 kids that were killed at same intersection a few years ago

Pictures from the scene show the truck was on a smaller side road heading towards a flashing red light and a stop sign. The bus was going straight thru on the main 100kmh highway. Investigation will take months to complete....even years is possible if it goes to court. Fatals are a major investment in time and effort....and tragedy. Sorry for the families. Hear the go fund me page for the team has reached over $6.3 million.

Not sure if the news in the States even reported.

About an hour or so from me
I didn't know anyone, or relatives....just shocking though.  Prime Minister Trudeau even flew to Humboldt for a vigile
