I think you have Rob's old Mini. There are two flasher relay units. One operates the four ways hazards and the other the flashers. The flashers and the four ways are in unison in the wiring. So, for a quick check. turn the hazards on and determine which on is which. You will hear it clicking under the bonnet. Switch one for the other.

A common fix in many disjointed relationships....or cuddling.....cuddling also works..

more likely, the problem is at the hazard switch. is the mini a later mini with six pins on the back of the switch? if it is, the female sockets spread apart do to the heat. they need to be removed from the plastic block and squeezed a little tighter.

You mention a "four way flasher" so I'm assuming you mean the hazard light function which would make the car MK4 on. There are separate relays on the this model for the indicators and the hazards so checking the flasher relays first would be a good start. Most common location for them is inside the engine bay next to the wiper motor.

The electrical gods aren't with me. Last month it was the brake lights. That turned out to be the switch in the pedal area, and they now work. Trouble is, the turn signals stopped working on the way to get the switch. The shop did a fair amount of trouble shooting with no success, so I need some help. The 4-way flashers DO work, so we know it's not something stupid like bulbs or wiring to the lights themselves.
