Hi Ken thanks for your response. That was what I was running into as well when I was trying to research what the codes meant. So I am wondering is the codes are even correct/for my car. I guess I will go to a different auto parts store and see if they can hook it up and read different codes! Yes you are correct, it is an outline of the engine in yellow (not red) and a red car on a lift. These are in the box by the odometer not the speedometer so I assumed they are caution not warning.

Can you describe the error light on the dash?  Is it an engine outline in yellow?

Generally speaking, as long as the error light is yellow, you should be able to drive you MINI without further damage.  If the error light is in red, you need to stop the car immediately.

We don't recognize the error codes you provided - the MINI error codes typically have the letter 'P' followed by four numbers (Pxxxx)...

Hi Mini friends - my 2003 S sadly recently passed away. Yesterday I bought a new (old) mini - 2007 mini s turbo. All was well until I got halfway through my 2-1/2 hour drive home and the caution engine annoying icon light came on by the odometer. I took it to the auto parts store today to have the dude read the codes. The first place said I didn't have any codes (AKA he didn't know how to make the computer work) and the second place read me 4 codes (37896, 37840, 37883, 10373). I can't afford to take it to the dealer and have them put it on a computer or else I would have bought a new mini from the dealer. BUT how do I know if these codes are serious and I shouldn't be driving my new (old) mini?? Please help :-/
