I had a chance meeting with a really cool dude here in my town, when my Moke was overheating, and I was letting it cool right at the end of his driveway.  Turns out he loves Mokes, and is restoring a '68 Sunbeam Tiger.

He saw this Moke on BaT also, so it seems that a LOT of people are browsing these sites, not just specific enthusiasts.  Also, I think there is video on Youtube of the sellers loading this Moke onto a transport in Chicago..

Yeah, here we go:  https://youtu.be/J1P4ua0FIVc

Lets realize the days of 500$ mini's and finding Mokes in fields are pretty far GONE, or you're going to have to be REALLY LUCKY.  Anyone now with a Moke sees more $$$ VALUE by having one now with reference to this Auction.  I sure do, even if its not original or restored.
Lets also realize un restored is also a thing.

A Public auction like BAT brings together wallets and people that have money to put places and buy that silly little car they've never seen before.   Why go to Barret or Mecums and see 200 cars you don't want when its right there to click and buy? Auctions work = Sellers win isn't that the point?
Richy riches DO invest with cars.. Buy one , take back to auction a few years later.. get your cash back plus a profit put it back in another one. Sounds more stable than the stock market or a savings account....   Not the game for 'cheap' mini owners....

Its been a Dry time of Moke's on BAT so I'm sure that helped the auction too .
If you want to profit and sell something you sure have to play the game in this world these days... Game meet Game.    The internet has brought and changed all markets in the Same way = MORE Buyers potentially to any sale thats what BRINGS THE PAYDAY... what we all want at the end of the day ..

Sorry the market isnt cheap.
That was interesting.

Still stupid money though (I can use the word stupid because I was previously here before the word 'stupic' was first used).

Market shmarket, some people pay a lot for some things, because of the intrinsic value, the added value of the (relative) uniqueness of the car etc etc and some pay a lot regardless of these factors.

I would pay more for an Innocenti 1300 Export than I would for a Cooper S, for others the opposite would be true and on and on...

However, this Moke? - stupid money.

It all started, way back, with Bills’ iconic statement

”ARE YOU STONED OR JUST PLAIN STUPIC”

There were even T shirts with phrase emblazoned on them

3 bidders and ego's equals higher prices just like Barrett Jackson auctions.
Also the main thing that helped the sale imo of this particular Moke was the (apart from a respray) originality of it nothing was covered up with newly applied under coating etc.
A lot of collector cars in general that are original and still dusty from storage are bringing silly money lately.

maj4479  my guess in money laundering  ..aka    drug money . here in the USA . buying cars for EXPORT. you have to be STONED or just  STUPIC to pay  THREE times market money for used mini moke..  later bc

I take it Al, since you were the first to post it you didn't have a heart attack.  Holy moly.  And a 2000 Honda Civic SI sold for $22,750.  What is going on.  I bet if you were the seller you might have.  Please don't though, we appreciate you for the most part.
