And, yes, while it varies in detail model to model, all Minis are something less than 2 inches wider at the front compared to the rear....

I think you're right. I seem to recall reading that somewhere. I've never noticed before, but now that I have, it looks a bit goofy, like it's pinched in the rear end. Unless someone can come up with a good reason not to, other than authenticity—I've given up on that a long time ago, I'm gonna make both ends even.

Correct me if I'm wrong but the standard mini track is 30mm narrower in the rear isn't it? Something like 1230 front 1200 rear?

Just tap them out with a hammer. If you get lucky you can rotate the wheel and find a sweet spot where they will come out the back without taking the hub off.

BFH! use a nut and washer's to pull the new stud into the hub Don't use the BFH for re-fitting...........................
