1984 when all but the City-E changed to the gauge pod in front of the driver.

Single binnacles carried on for a couple of years on the poverty spec cars.

Quote by Alex “ thanks for the info on the dash being aftermarket. Please, could you tell me when the last ones come new from the factory ( month/year ) would be great. Year would be better than nothing. If you have the source, please tell me where to find it Alex. Thank you. Darren.

When you come to mount (fasen) your PEI licence plate you will see the holes will not line up

just make adjustments on the fly

remember this mini is from away

The three-clock binnacle is aftermarket, and the top dash rail has also been removed.

Mounting a rev-counter in the air vent works (I did it on my Elf years ago ), just remember to block off the air intake in the inner wing to stop water ingress.  It helps if you have a full width dash fitted too.

Look at the driveway... red mud coloured. I don't know where they get aggregate for asphalt, but if it is local to PEI, it's gonna be red.
My brother works for NB Highways and he tells me that all that red gravel you see used in highway and street making came from one gravel supplier....coincidentally an Irving source....Maybe KC had "friends" on PEI as well. ???

Spitz, I forgot to mention that the car decodes as a JDM ( with decals, sun visor warning, etc in Japanese ) that was ordered with LHD. Not a switch over.

Actually Spitz, I can’t see any evidence that the three gauge centre binnacle wasn’t there from the factory. It looks to me, from all that is visible, that the car came this way. BTW- I have all new pieces of the proper trim that fit in as a shelf and the back ( firewall ) piece, I’m just not installing them until I change the colour from black to the fairly common BLMC grey. I think the grey will offer some needed contrast in the mostly black interior ( and I simply like grey better, having seen a few pictures of the parcel tray and back piece done that way ). I also have a large tach to place in there, with a steering column mount being my first choice, and on the dashtop being my second choice. I know from viewing lots of internet pictures that the column mount will be difficult ( on anything newer than a mk2 ) , but I will try hard to find a way to do it ( column mount the tach ). If that idea fails, then the tach will simply mount on the dashtop.

Cheers, Darren.

The centre binnacle looks like new, and from the lack of dash trim....I would guess that it would have originally had a two or three clock gauge cluster in front of wheel originally.  Perhaps it was swapped to LH steer at the same time (?)

Good eyes again Dan ! You know, as a youngster growing up on PEI I couldn’t see what was special about our soil. It wasn’t until my family started travelling did I realize what soil looks like to most people. We consider that grey coloured stuff to be unplantable as it is really just muck with little or no soil value. The “red” in our soil is caused by its unusually high content of iron. So you are actually looking at oxydised iron when you see the red colour. It just happens that potatoes, our main crop , thrive in an irom rich soil. As far as Anne goes...$#&@ %#$ ! Phoney little tart !

BTW Dan, after taking those pics that you posted for me, I got to thinking I should have taken a shot of my brothers license plate.... Cheers bro’s and gals, Darren.

Thank you morris mini k ! I will take care of the mechanicals before getting into the cosmetics. Makes the best sense. And I am sure I will be thrilled with the Mini when I start driving her. My very first car was...yep, you guessed it...a Mini ! But rust had set into that one long before I owned it....so my very long wait for a good, solid Mini is almost over ( just some repairs and checks for its “special “ MVI. Special because it will be the time this car has been inspected in Canada ( was JDM ), and I expect a very thorough MVI.

Cheers and thanks ! Darren.

Thanks for posting these pics for me Dan. If you don’t mind, I may ask you to post a few more over the coming month ( ? ). If all goes well I should have everything complete including the ( fairly wide ) black stripe that will be offset to the drivers side as well as some other graphics, by then. Road ready. And a newspaper for final proof ( I think Lethbridge May have a “bit “ more snow than we do right now ) :-) morris mini k and minimans, your observations were the same as mine ;-) , not sure how the shifter could be missed....

She is looking rather unloved sitting there with the flurries swirling around it, but this sort of scene will seldom, if ever, be seen again. Better, indoor storage ( work ) space is secured for early this week and I can set to work in earnest. Exciting times for this middle aged car nut !

Thanks and cheers, Darren.

PS- I’m not sure how I missed those properly aligned screws ! But I have scrutinized the Mini in all places and have no doubt that this 89’ JDM Mini is still wearing her original ( and very good ) paint. Not too bad for a 29 year old Mini, and great bones for the plans I have for it.
