Thanks Bill.  However, original engine etc. isn't an issue with my car nor are issues with importation.

For us in NC, the rules are that if your car is over 35 years old it does not require any inspections.  Such cars can run year of manufacture plates if desired as long as your "modern" plate is in the car at all times.  There are no rules about originality so almost anything goes.

Ouch

SK seems to be a lot more lax than BC
ANY car here from 1987 and earlier is able to have "antique" plates.  No safety required, no emission test required....it's crazy actually.  Plates cost $160/year regardless of year

Ordered so by a Judge

Our Mini Club is a Member of the Specialty Vehicle Assoc. of B.C.  The SVABC has addressed the interests of the owners of older vehicles.  Naturally, SVABC's early work addressed early hot rods and they were well looked after as a result - including brand new customs that only looked like the original vehicles.

Recently, SVABC pushed for moving the date for Modified Collector Plates from 1959 to 1974...SVABC was successful and the Modified Collector program now includes all but the last 6 years on Mini imports to Canada.

All Minis and later Minis (1975-80) can still get Collector Plates BUT they must be as originally imported.

The result, my 1961 Countryman can have a 1293cc engine, non-factory paint & interior, any size of wheels & flairs, radios/stereos, AC, etc.  In fact, I will stay with 10" wheels & tires.  Though not likely to be on the road until next spring, the '61 was registered by the Insurance Corp. of B.C., the Crown corporation handling vehicle registration & licensing, as a Modified Collector in restoration.  It will just need Safety Certification before licensing.

If your state does not have a similar group, maybe start one!

That is on old video.  Frankly I think it should be brought up more often to remind people what can happen when they choose to not follow the rules.  Don't like the rules and think they are misguided?  Contact your representatives and work to change the laws.

It is bad enough that people still bring in Minis with VINs which clearly have no relationship to the car being imported without complaining about the consequences when found out.

Dumb indeed.
While a agree with all that it’s a shame to see such great examples of Minis crashed as this one, and
other fine machines of other makers, I have to agree with mongrel foremost. To not look into all possibilities,
or hire someone to do it is a very optimistic move.
