Yeah, I try the classifieds and looks like people like to sell and trade around the forum as well.  Just trying to increase my exposure.  Wish I came to the forum years ago.  Hope I'm not coming off as trying to get an 850 for nothing, but I expect there is a good runner out there taking up space.

Yes, to your Brad question. I thought I had traded for an 850 but it turns out to be a 998. Not a problem as it was a core for core swap. I'm always on the hunt for one of the very late 850 s with three cam bearings. I'm going to go ahead and say it. The days of people giving 850 s or 998 s away is over. Look in cars and parts for sale here and there was one "low mileage runs good in Texas?" I checked on. I have rebuilt two 850 s in the last couple of years. They were both long of tooth and just as expensive or worse than any other 4 cyl. build. Also both required a four synchro magic wand tranny. I'm currently doing a pair of very special 998 s one of which will go atop a 4 synch. magic wand hybrid box. In reply to BC I'm down to 1 850 which is a matching number from my Moke. Steve (CTR) 850 located on page 3 and is in Cal.

they're thought of as boat moorings. I think you can get one for free if you look long enough.

Is that Brad?  Thanks or the heads up!

Anyone have an idea what a decent 850 goes for?

My intention are to drive it around town and really, that is it.  I hate how congested it gets where I live and zipping around in a mini greatly makes up for it.  I'd never take it on the interstate unless it was towing it.  I had an 850 once before and it was great around town, under 40mph 90% of the time around 50mph max.

I am in the middle of a 1960 resto to be a run about.  Not a concourse restoration, but do want the major drive components to be period.  So, Looking for an 850 in good shape.  Plan to use the original gearbox.  I live in Georgia and any help is greatly appreciated.
