Does the fan operate properly (at different speeds) under conditions other than defrost like heat and ac?  Or is the fan always on high or off  regardless of defrost / heat / ac?

Usually this is a resistor block issue, used to look like several coils on a board, now there are thick film versions, they are installed into the air flow to keep them cool. Check rock auto to see what it looks like, and purchase. should go by the name "fan speed resistor" or some such. Inless you get all fan speeds on floor or vent.

I am having issues with my mini.  I am a new owner of a 2005 r 52.  When I turn on the front windshield defroster, it only runs on high.  If you try to turn the fan down to hear yourself think, it cuts off completely.  I am thinking that maybe it needs a blower motor control module but I have no idea.  Has anyone else had this issue?  Thanks in advance for the help!
