There are great resources throughout this site: the mini timeline, in the articles section; and then out in the rest of the Internet. There are two magazines and many books that can offer great insight, and there are a lot of clubs all over the world. Most mini owners are happy to chat if they have time when you run into them in person, unless you actually run into them and damage their car. I was neither angry nor bothered, but offered my perspective.

I think the issue is that some Minis in the US may have had their identity changed. Not taking sides on that practice, but occasionally some cars have been confiscated and crushed. Anyway, when someone jumps onto a national forum and their very first question is about what year a certain Mini is, puts people on edge. It could have been asked differently and perhaps gotten a better response. Maybe, "Hey guys, my wife and I just saw this nice Mini and wondered what year it was, as we'd like to buy one similar to it." Just a thought. Anyway, new posters are hard to categorize, whether an enthusiast, a threat, or just a jerk like "specialist".

Sorry if we put you off. Many of the responses were intended to be humorous, not grumpy. You should realize that some of us are bored, having tucked our Minis away for the winter several months ago. (Up here in the Great White North it is diagnosed as cabin fever.) Others are paranoid.

Most of us have expert opinions... when we don't, some of us tend to make them up!

OKAY... anybody know where Sky Lake Fla is and if you know any Mini owners in the area?

It's non-standard, and as the Mini is the Mr Potatohead of cars with everything interchangeable, it's very difficult to accurately pin it down.

However, if the metalwork is original, it's post-84 as mur says.  My guess would be a 90s Sprite reVINed to a 70s VIN number.

From the wing marker lights, I would say 1984+  ( I think that's when those came in )

Red Riley has offered an excellent answer.

Is this car presently advertised for sale? Then please provide a link to the ad and people can view that and perhaps offer insight.

If this is just some person’s car, parked in a parking lot, isn’t it a bit much to post images on the internet and ask for people’s thoughts? I certainly would not welcome such attention to my own cars.

Photos are very small and grainy. About the only thing I could spot was that the wheels look to be at least 12" or maybe 13".

Exactly where in Florida did you spot it - the car might be known to someone living nearby.
