You should also know that some jurisdictions require red reflectors on the back end of a car. Red tail light lenses usually act as reflectors. That's because when a car is parked or broken down on a dark road, its back end is facing oncoming vehicles that might run into it. Cars with high tail lights also need down-low reflectors like this Honda.

I looked around the Mini Mania catalog and it does show white lens's with colored bulbs so I guess it's ok till the first cop pulls me over

That should be just fine, the cops are getting younger all the time anyway, at least in my eyes, I doubt they would know if it's not original. Now if you have one of them light up license plate frame's, or crown air fresheners on the back shelf, your just asking for trouble.

They are white similar to some headlight lenses.  Red for tail light, red for stop and amber for turn and white backup.

kolsen..  my guess . NOT legal.. also depends on which state you are in..  I have the OEM yellow headlights in my morgan and I get stopped by local FIVE O from time to time about them..but you know had them for FORTY years..  who cares.. ?/ later bc

You only said colored bulb but you didnt say what color... is it red bulb or whilte bulb? Or yellow?  If you turn the headlights on, the rear light should be RED and if you step on the break, the  light should also be RED , other colors are illegal, trust me , i got stopped by a Highway Patrol last saturday with this same issue..

clear or white?

Didn't have any luck with a picture.

I have white rear lenses with colored bulbs on my 1993 Mini.  Anyone know if there is a legal issue with them??
