On a 62 Cooper there is no frame on the rear seat. All you have is the shaped wood piece you have with horsehair padding and a vinyl cover wrapped around it and screwed down with 2 screws thru the parcel shelf from inside the boot. If you'd check Parnell's book it will tell you what color seats were originally in your car.

Thank you Mike, a fine idea on color matching. Went to the Newton site, to look at their "how to fit a rear seat cover" download, looks like at some point an all wire metal seat frame was used, different from the seat back top part I have of wood and sheet metal, which may not be complete as there is nothing going down from the top of it to clip the seat cover to. I will have to pull my existing rear seat to see what it has.

you could get paint sample cards at your local paint shop or hardware store in the grey family and when you match up the color, take that to your upholstery shop and see if they can match the color.

Also, I think you could get some samples from Newton Commercial in the UK.

Is this all there is to a rear seat for a frame / structure? Looking to redo my back seat on a 62 cooper, if everything else is just fabric and foam, I could keep my old back seat for resale, and start over with this frame. I would like to have it done in standard mini gray, which I know is not correct, for a cooper, but reduces the cost quite a bit by the time all the other bits are purchased. Should it be dove or cumulus gray, and how would I get a swatch or explain it to the person recovering the seat. The only gray I have now in the car that is correct, I think for a early standard mini are the visors and head liner. Thank you in advance for the help.
